Bio:
I married in 1965 and completed my degree at DLC in December 1966. I worked with churches in West Palm Beach, Fla. and Memphis, TN. and returned to Nashville at the beginning of 1969. I taught English in the Metro Nashville Public schools for the next 3 years.
In 1971, I founded an educational company called Learn, Inc. and we sold reading and math programs all over the states. In 1977, I closed the company and went back to full-time church work and worked with the Otter Creek church in Nashville. It was in that year that my then wife divorced me, and my two children, David & Sonya and I, went and lived for a year in Canada.
In late 1979, I met my present wife, Brenda, out in Midland, Texas and we have been married almost 27 years and she is my best friend and truly a gift from God. She became the mother to my two children there and I taught English, Bible and Speech & Drama at the Midland Christian high school. After one year, the Golf Course Road church sent us to Oshawa, Ontario, Canada as missionaries. After working there for three years, we moved to Port Elizabeth, South Africa where we worked three times with the same church, over the next twenty-five years. In 1985, we took in a small African child of two, and the apartheid government put us out of the country for having a "black child living in a white neighborhood." We took him with us and adopted him in the states and he became an American citizen.
During the next two years, I preached for a church in Hawaii, near the Kanehoe Marine base, and then the next two years, Brenda and I moved to a very secluded place in the Colorado mountains and built a large log house. (It was during this time that I got to work as an orthopedic surgeon's assistance, working in surgery replacing total knees, total hips, total shoulders and many arthroscopies, among other duties.)
In 1991, the apartheid government ended when Nelson Mandela was released from prison, and we were allowed to return to Port Elizabeth and work with the church there. In 1994, we moved to Liverpool, England to work with the church for three years and then were asked to move to Tirana, Albania, when communism ended in that country. We worked with the church there and taught the English language using the Bible. After three years there, we were asked to move to Thessalonica, Greece to work with the church.
The church in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, asked us to return a third time to work with them in 2000. In January of this year (2005), when I turned 60, we decided to change our ministry. We had dreamed for years that when we returned to the states, we would be able to live in a Motor Home and go around the states working for a month or more at a time for churches that wanted our services - preaching, teaching, assisting with VBS, conducting Gospel Meetings, conducting Marriage Retreats, etc. Well, a great elder of the church in Midland, Texas - who had financially supported us for 25 years - helped us purchase our present house, a 39 foot motor home that is really beautiful!
We returned from South Africa at the end of January and have now worked with churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Pennsylvania. We are already booked with churches in Virginia, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas and Ohio in the future. We also plan to return to South Africa and Albania, every five months to help those churches where there are so many people we love.
This has gotten way too long so I will stop now! If you want to know any more about our ministry, please contact us at
www.him.eaglequest.biz or contact us at wspeer1@yahoo.com. We would love to hear from any of you.We have 5 children, David - 38; Sonya - 35; Kody - 28; Krystal - 23; and Ephraim - 22. David has never married and lives in Seattle, Wa.. Sonya is married to Eddie Fontaine and they live in Oklahoma City with our three grand children: Brandan - 10; Micah - 8; and Makayla - 6. Kody is married to Kristie and he is a Youth Minister for the church in Athens, Texas. Krystal is graduating from Oklahoma Christian in December and then soon to be married. Ehpraim is in the army and stationed at Ft. Polk in Louisiana.
God has blessed me far more than I could ever imagine!
